UnitedHealthcare is a division of UnitedHealth Group, Inc. The company began in 1974 as a privately held company in Minnetonka, Minnesota. UnitedHealthcare’s goal was to become one of the first HMO plans.
The company’s rapid growth led to the acquisition of several other service providers. The company’s direction also led to several subsidiaries and numerous affiliations over the years. In 2011, the company decided to reorganize under one brand name to streamline and simplify the company structure.
The company continued to grow into international markets such as the UK. The most recent events in the US were typically a result of the Affordable Healthcare Act, which has affected nearly everyone involved in the medical industry.
